"Thank you for the superb care my wife received"

About: Scarborough General Hospital

My wife was admitted to Scarborough Hospital on 23rd August with breathing difficulties while we were on holiday. From the initial assessment in A+E to the time spent on Beech Ward followed by 2 weeks in ITU, everything about the care she received was magnificent and a credit to the hospital.

Everything was done very quickly and efficiently despite the hospital being at times very busy (I arrived 1hr after the ambulance had delivered her and she had already had a chest x-ray done). All the nurses we saw were polite, competent and very caring indeed, and were also excellent when it came to communicating her condition to us. They were also very quick to react when it appeared she was having difficulties. From fetching items out of the fridge to helping her in and out of bed, nothing was too much for any of them. Likewise the doctors were courteous and honest and explained clearly what they were doing and why. They all really installed a sense of trust in both of us and left us confident that she was in the best hands. Despite a few setbacks along the way (including one night when she stopped breathing and had to be intubated, and a potentially serious kidney problem that the doctors spotted very quickly and began to treat effectively) her condition eventually improved markedly thanks in no small part I believe to the care she received from Scarborough Hospital.

When it came to "repatriation" to our local hospital, the staff at Scarborough organised this very well by contacting them in advance and ensuring she was fully fit to travel and a bed ready before they authorised the transfer (which took place on 6th September) She is now back in our local hospital and making a good recovery.

Everyone who treated her at Scarborough is a credit to their profession and I cannot thank them enough.
