"Audiology Appointment"

About: Central Middlesex Hospital

Went to a 50+ seminar at Olympia and had a scan of ear canal. Told and saw on the screen that there were 2 ?unusual shapes in the canal of the left ear. Advised that my GP should refer me for 'Micro Vacuum' which they duly did on the 17 July 2017 by Fax.

I had considerable discomfort and pain and your hospital advised me to go to Northwick Park, was seen by a doctor who examined my ear and gave a script for Olive Oil Eardrops.

Duly completed same. Contacted Audiology several times and fobbed off with 'eight weeks' Asked Manager at my practice, The Sheldon, Cricklewood who also had no success.

After many attempts I got through to a secretary, who told me the same story and informed me that they were the only person in the office, severe staff shortage! Disgraceful.

Surely the Administrator is aware of the situation and able to do something?

Could this delay causes more damage ?

Radiographer for 53yrs in all departments.

I am sorry to hear of your struggles to get an appointment and to get through on the phone.

The department is working under extreme pressure at the moment with up to 100 urgent and suspected cancer referrals per week. They are aware of their unacceptable phone response time and are consulting with staff to improve this. A new service is expected to launch by the end of October. There will be a dedicated phone team with a target that all calls will be answered within 3 rings. A new Consultant has also been recruited and will come into post in November.

All referrals are clinically triaged and checked by a Consultant to ensure that anything deemed clinically urgent is prioritised.

I appreciate that this information does not help you now. Please contact our PALS team on 0208 869 5118 or LNWH-tr.PALS@nhs.net if you would like us to follow up on your behalf.

Thank you for taking the trouble to let me know.

Best wishes

Sue
