"Doctor Review Times"

About: Highbury Hospital

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Service User on Redwood 1.

1. Not being made aware of when Doctor review is taking place on the ward. This causes anxiousness and anxiety as unable to plan week or accept/invite visitors, constantly waiting around on the ward. Is there a way that this could be given first thing in the morning, or as suggested like Redwood 2 and have a board for service users to look at with names and times.

2. Was due to see a Therapist in pre-booked Family Room. This then had to be moved due to Family Room being needed, which delayed the appointment due to not being able to find a private room. More rooms needed for private appointments or incidents.

3. Also, its hard to find an area to go to when family/friends are visiting. Everywhere seems to be a public area, the Family Room is constantly used and booked out. Understand that there is places such as; restaurant, community garden, benches, Options etc. but need something inside and not publicly accessible.

Firstly please accept my apologies for this miscommunication each person on the ward has an allocated Consultant whom holds reviews once a week. Which can be allocated a slot time which is convenient for all attending. I am sorry that you seem to have not been informed of your weekly day for a review and not offered a slot which was convenient for you. Please approach a staff member on the ward or myself on the ward to arrange for this to occur in the future. I am sorry this caused you unneccesary anxieties at an already anxiety provoking time.

I will take on board and look at at from the beginning of the week, all dates and times to be discussed and planned for the end of week review dates which would be convenient and planned in advance.

Secondly on the point of seeing someone in a private room there are Three rooms which are available on Redwood 1 for 1:1 meetings. Unfortunately 2 of these can become out of action when the ward is flexed (having less beds) and they then become part of Redwood 2 ward. Unfortunately this then only leaves one area on the ward for private 1:1 meetings this is a design flaw of the ward when it was built and redesigned in 2010. If you do not have leave from the ward this can obviously then cause visiting space issues with not only appointments but as you say important visits from relatives as the policy for the ward is to not allow visitors in bedrooms. If you do have leave from the ward there is the option to use the sprituality and pastoral room, which if you ask a member of redwood 1 team they will inform you of its whereabouts or if the weather is appropriate and you have the right level of observations there is the courtyard or the small grassed seating area outside the dining room. Please ask staff to utilise this too and if able to do so.

If you feel you would wish to discuss this in more detail with myself or a member of the team please make contact with me or another member of the senior team who will offer more support and advice. Contact Number 01159529410.

Many thanks

Steve
