"Consequences of breaking probation order."

About: St Andrew's Healthcare Birmingham / Northfield

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I felt like I knew the Queen, I had psychosis. I travelled to Buckingham Palace in London. I was stopped and searched and arrested and spent nine months in Wandsworth prison. I was scared of some of the inmates and I mentally deteriorated and refused to share a cell. So, the special team came and escorted me to the hospital ward. As soon as this happened four and half/five years ago I stopped smoking and generally felt better.

I got the care I needed on the prison hospital ward, but when I was admitted to St Andrew's Healthcare initially things were bad. Once the staff got to know me, I was helped.

I think the staff could have been more compassionate when I was first admitted and this would have improved the rate of my recovery. I have felt more positive as time has gone by.

Thank you for taking the time to give us such comprehensive feedback. It is really useful to hear about your experience of admission, because it gives us the opportunity to change our approach to improve things in future.

We are looking at ways to improve the experience of settling on to the wards and I would really like to explore this further with you. If you are happy to meet with me, please let your Care Coordinator, Nurse Manager or CNL know.
