"Outstanding care shown to my wife"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / General Medicine Borders General Practices Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

Following a further Infective Exacerbation of COPD which had been showing signs of onset over the previous few days we had cause to request an emergency appointment at our local GP Medical Practice in Coldstream. Dr Morton was absolutely outstanding in her care for my wife, and had no hesitation in stating an ambulance would be called and a visit to the BGH was on the cards.

Scottish Ambulance Service were equally outstanding! On admission to A&E at the BGH and some examination my wife was first admitted to the MAU Ward 6 for 24 Hours, transferred to Ward 4 the following day. My wife and I cannot praise enough the exceptional Staff that were on duty throughout her 5-day stay. The care of Dr Williamson, to the Nurses, Physiotherapy, the Auxiliaries - and in deed 'Jamie' who done the Tea Trolley - the care, kindness, understanding and humour was immense.

Hospital is never my wife's favourite place - but the outstanding care shown to her from GP through to Ward 4 was very much and gratefully appreciated. We have no suggestions how things could have been improved - how can you possibly improve - on perfect care from the highest professionals. Thank You All

Dear Kesbgm,

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your wife's care from her initial assessment with Dr Morton all the way through to Ward 4!

I share your wife's thoughts that hospital tends to be most people's least favourite place but I am delighted that we could make her feel comfortable and safe! I'm so glad that you mentioned so many members of the team and in particular Jamie, our healthcare assistants and nurses who are so often our unsung heroes! In the BGH we endeavour to work as a team and each staff member is equally valued in their individual contributions to making our patients feel confident and happy with the care that they are receiving! The jokes and humour are often a powerful medicine alongside the empathy, care and compassion.

I will pass on your kind sentiments to all of the teams across the medical floor and primary care and I very much hope that your wife is now recovering well from her infection!

Best wishes,

Lynn

I was really sorry to hear about your wife's illness but pleased to hear your kind words about everybody involved in her care. What your wife's experience highlights the value of a person-centred approach to healthcare.
