"Different experience using a GP vs A&E"

About: Borders General Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics (Ward 9)

(as a service user),

Last year, I twisted my knee in the garden and unable to weightbear so went to A&E. Xrayed, seen by consultant and offered physio. Eventually diagnosed as torn meniscus. Excellent service from hospital physio at the lower legs rehab class. They looked after me through 12 classes till they were sure I was back on my feet again. Felt very cared for.

This year arthritis flared up in my other knee. Went to GP and was only offered anti-inflammatories which I can't take or very strong painkillers such as Tramadol. Didn't want to risk addiction so have had private treatment. No wonder so many people go straight to A&E!

I am delighted to hear about the excellent care that you received whilst attending our Emergency Department and from our physiotherapist at the lower leg rehab class. I will pass your gratitude on to the staff within these departments.

I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed when you went to the GP. I would urge you to contact the GP service with your feedback. If you are not happy to give your feedback direct to the GP service we would be happy to pass this on. Please contact our Feedback & Complaints Team on 01896 826719.

Nicola
