"Sent home in extreme pain"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Gynaecology Crosshouse Hospital / Xrays & Scans University Hospital Ayr

(as a relative),

Being told that the pain is coming from your hips and back (No x-ray) to confirm. Then going from a scan which shows 30mm cyst. Gyn doctor arrived and said it was a 1cm cyst( seems that there was no less than 3 different answers to the size of the cyst) and that it would not cause the severe pain and left leaving patient in absolute tears and feeling hurt and angery that she was not being believed.

Was told the pain team would see her which she refused as she wanted to know the cause of the pain and have it fixed but it seems that no-one cared. was advised that she would be going for a scan which they would put a dye to see what was going on and a gynecologist would review. To be asked by the doctor how her pain was this am and before she could answer the doctor said has it miraculously disappeared. (very condescending) then to be told that she was being discharged and if the pain persists to come back in.

when asked about the scan and the gynae doctor was told that it would be an out patients appt. So the upshot of it is after being on morphine for pain for 5 days, and still being in the same pain as when she arrived ( baring in mind that she was in Ayr hospital only 5days before when they thought she had a kidney stone and was discharged in the same pain and was crawling around the house in severe pain for 5 days before presenting to crosshouse hospital )it seems that the doctors neither know or care as to what is actually causing the severe pain. But come back if it gets any worse.

If there is something that the doctors could do differently WHY are they not doing it now. So she Will be going home with no real answers and in severe pain. I think that Crosshouse has been far to quick to send her home.

The staff nurses and care assistants were fantastic but I think the doctor's attitude and communication need improvement.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Disgusted step mother,

I am sorry to have taken so long to respond and I am sorry that your step-daughter has had so much pain without us being able to resolve things for her.

As you have raised a variety of issues in this post I have passed your comments on to the Clinical Director for this area. We are very keen to look at this for you and I feel we can only address them properly if we know more details. Can I ask that your step-daughter contacts the PA for our Clinical Director, so we can look into this and agree what the next step is? Can she please phone Allyson Peacock on 01563 – 825488?

Thank you so much for contacting us via Care Opinion and I hope your step daughter is keeping better.

Kind regards,

Eunice
