I've suffered with sickness phobia for 17 years which affected my everyday life, I was unable to go out anywhere, eat out anywhere, and was scared to leave my house in case I was sick. I started to have panic attacks which then made me refer to Lets Talk. I was referred to see Emma where I explained how I felt and then after explaining that she told me about what CBT was, and the treatment we'd go through. I was scared and because I've had this all my life I didn't think it was going to work, I thought I would come out of it exactly the same.
The next session I was given homework where I had to write down every time I felt anxious, what triggered it and the thoughts/feelings I had. I did this for a couple of weeks which helped me to start to see patterns of what my main triggers were. Emma discussed exposure which scared me and I worried about having to deal with and putting myself in them situations; there was nothing worse I could think of because of my phobia, but I learnt that every time I did expose myself, write it down, look at it, I could see evidence that it was working and I was feeling better each time.
Now even though my phobias still there it doesn't affect my everyday life and I can do all of the things that I wasn't able to do before such as eating out, and if I do feel sick I can handle it a lot better. Emma has been really good and supportive and helped me manage my phobia.
