"Staff were incredibly professional and friendly."

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as a relative),

My elderly mum was admitted to the hospital whilst on holiday at a caravan park in Berwick upon Tweed. Mum had previously been unofficially diagnosed as having gallstones - we were awaiting a scan.

Unfortunately mum was ill and after a frustrating conversation with NHS Direct in England eventually we got a call from a Doctor who arranged an ambulance for my mum. Mum was taken and admitted to Borders Hospital and, oh my goodness, what a difference. Staff there were incredibly professional as well as friendly. From A&E to ward staff, they were all fantastic.

My sister and I spent some time in Melrose whilst mum went through a procedure to flush out the gall stones which had moved to her bile duct. Our family are incredibly impressed with the treatment and empathy as shown by your staff, you should be very proud of your service. Whilst in Melrose, locals we spoke to were also quick to confirm how proud they were of their local hospital. Thank you much for not only your treatment of our mum, but also her family. You are a true ambassador for the NHS.

Dear gb07

I was sorry to hear that your mum was taken ill on her holiday to Berwick Upon Tweed but very pleased to hear that she has received the treatement she required for her gallstones. Having had that problem myself, I understand how painful this can be however, can only imagine how daunting it must be to take ill whilst on holiday.

Thank you for taking the time to share your mother and your family's experience of the Borders General Hospital. Our emergency department and ward staff will be very appreciative of your lovely comments which I will share with them.

I am delighted to hear that you consider the Borders General Hospital to be an ambassador for the NHS which like the locals you met in Melrose, I am also proud of.

I hope that your mother has now fully recovered.

Thanks again and best wishes,

Karen
