After a fall fracturing my skull I was referred to Rapid Eye as many line floaters. After initial consultation I was told everything looked OK. A week later after going to my local optician, as floaters had thickened into dark black linesI was sent back to Rapid eye as they said there was a tear.
This was lasered automatically as an A and E patient..
A week later I went back for follow up and was told again all looked OK and referred me t the Retina Dept in three weeks time. Ironically following week I lost partial sight and again my optician said I now had retina detachment and was sent back to Rapid Eye. Initially I was told it was,OK to wait 4 days for the operation but a colleague overruled this and
I was referred to another hospital the following day for an operation. Whilst having the operation the surgeon said the orgnal tear had only been lasered 85% and was very deep so they felt it highly likely it would not have taken anyway. They also found a few other tears that had been missed. They also said if I had waited 4 days for the operation I would have lost my sight in that eye.Staff are kind and friendly but I am very concerned everything is so rushed no one is noticing the basics.
