Following a hip replacement in October 2015, of which I found all aspects of the surgery, care and stay at the Wellesley faultless, I chose to have a knee replacement also at the Wellesley.
As expected, the surgery, care and accommodation was spot on.
However, there is one point that I would like to make known as it has left me very disappointed in the hospital.
Upon discharge, I was given medication to take home with me.
I asked the discharge nurse if the take home medication would be covered by my insurance, to which I was told "Yes it is.
Only if you were an outpatient would you be required to pay for the medication.
At this point you are still an inpatient." I accepted this as this was also the case with my previous surgery.
However, not long after returning home I received an invoice for £140 for the medication I was discharged with.
I queried this with both the hospital and the insurance company and was ultimately told that I was misinformed when discharged and I have to pay.
I reluctantly paid the invoice (having to use a credit card) and during the call I asked to be sent an email address to raise a formal complaint.
The person I spoke to assured me they would email the details to raise a complaint.
As yet I have still not received this, which is why I am making it known here.
Although this was an issue for me and caused a lot of unnecessary stress whilst recovering from major surgery, I cannot take anything away from the superb care I received whilst at the Wellesley.
