"More than Words Hanen course"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Adult Speech and Language Therapy

(as a parent/guardian),

We recently attended More than Words Hanen course when my daughter was diagnosed with social communication disorder, possible autism. We weren’t sure at first but after the introduction session with Anne we were immediately put at ease and were keen to start the course.

We cannot say enough good things about this course and the therapist who ran it. Anne provided great suggestions for us to follow; how you interact and play. It was great to meet other parents going through similar situations.

We have heard of other families being put off by the filming element of the course, we really didn’t notice, we were too busy concentrating on using the skills we had learned during the sessions.

My daughter is now coming along great and her language and communication skills have notably improved, I cannot thank Anne she is kind and considerate and she really wants to help parents and carers to be able to communicate with their children her support and guidance was invaluable.

Dear Alex3

Thank you for your great feedback not only of Anne but of the MTWs programme. I will pass on your kind words and I am sure she will be delighted to hear that the course has been helpful.

It's great to hear that you and your daughter have benefited from the programme. As you say sometimes families feel nervous at the thought of the videos but these are a great way to identify what works well when communicating together and to help develop these skills further.

In Lanarkshire we have trained more staff to deliver MTWs as evidence has shown strongly that by giving parents additional ideas and support to help develop their children's language communication we can make the biggest difference to their skills.

Parents are children's main teachers and MTWs provides practical ideas to try and home.

Thank you for taking the time to send us feedback

Regards

Karen
