"Incredible kind, compasionate and competant staff"

About: University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust

I am writing to thank all the staff at the hospital for the incredible care and treatment I received as an inpatient between 4 – 15 April, and especially those staff working in Ward 201 of the Cancer Centre.

Whilst I’m still receiving treatment as an outpatient and will be for the coming months it is the care that I received as an inpatient that I particularly wanted to write about.

The professionalism of the medical and nursing staff was exemplary.

There were almost too many people to mention by name. but there were medics in the AEC and from ENT who dealt with me on my admission.

There were Anaesthetists who came to see me to introduce themselves and explain what their roles were and what procedures should I have needed an emergency stent in my airways.

I spent a couple of nights in the Respiratory Ward and underwent a thorough examination of my airways including a Bronchoscopy.

In addition, I had a range of other procedures including CT and PET scans, a biopsy, an Echo Cardiogram, and X Rays, all carried out with care and patience.

Everyone introduced themselves and explained what and why things were happening.

I felt fully informed and very much involved with my treatment.

The nursing staff were incredibly kind and compassionate and nothing was too much trouble for them.

In addition, the other support staff including porters, catering and cleaning staff were helpful and kind.

I seemed to have been pushed miles in wheelchairs by porters who were unfailingly cheerful, polite and several spoke about their obvious pride in their jobs. Finally, a few words about the people in the Cancer Centre.

They are some of the most incredible people I’ve ever come across.

The care provided from the whole team from the Consultants, nursing staff was exceptional, as was the support from the Nursing Assistants who showed such care and professionalism.

So far my experience of being an outpatient has also been excellent and I have absolute confidence in all the medical staff who are caring for me.
