"The doctor refused to stitch my leg"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

After being admitted to crosshouse hospital for an overdose I was still struggling with suicidal thoughts. I self harmed while on the ward. The doctor came and refused to stitch the gaping wound on my leg. I was left with an open wound for some time. They eventually put paper stitches on it but as soon as I stood up they burst. The doctor continued to refused to stitch it. I left the hospital with an undressed gaping bleeding wound. I went to the nurse next day. The wound took 4 months to heal. I had to go to the nurse twice a week for dressings. My wound has now healed and is a lot bigger than it should have been. Totally disgusted that they made me leave like that.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear BarnOwl17c,

I ma really sorry, I can't imagine how difficult things must have been for you and I suspect your leg wound probably didn't help your mental health. I don't know why your leg was not stitched, but if you would like, I can find out for you.

Please contact me on 01563 826222 or email eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk and we can find out more for you.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us via Care Opinion.

Best wishes,

Eunice
