"General care and Nursing"

Having returned for dressing removal today completely horrified at the nursing care and dress code!!

Speaking as medical professionals, my Husband was present, a retired Doctor and myself, a Nurse.

Regarding aseptic technique....there was no asepsis!!

No personal nurse protection, ie apron as on NHS wards and other areas.

Same gloves worn for removal of dressing, (which had been on for 2 weeks), as for clipping the stitches.

No cleansing of foot or wound.

One of the worst things was the Nurses very long hair, only in a ponytail, (should be off the collar), fell forward and went on the wound, they just flicked it back!! No wonder there is so much infection, that was disgusting!!

Regarding information, it's only on our 3rd visit and because we were told by a Consultant friend, that we learnt of the free Parking facility for Parkhill Patients.

If we had the choice again, I would refuse to attend Parkhill Hospital, apart from consultant and Theatre care, I would choose NHS facilities any day!!

Response

I am sorry that you have had cause to complain about your recent experience at Park Hill Hospital.

In response to your concerns regarding no aseptic technique was used when you had your wound dressing removed, unfortunately due to your comments being anonymous we are unable to discuss with the nurse involved in your care the technique she used to treat your wound.

However, I have already taken the opportunity to discuss your experience with the Matron who oversees clinical services within the unit, and requested that additional one-off training on infection control takes place with all team members.

Infection control is taken very seriously at Park Hill Hospital, with all clinical and non-clinical staff having training in infection control on commencement of their employment, and refresher training annually.

If you would like to contact myself or Matron at Park Hill Hospital we would be happy to discuss your concerns further.

Kind regards

Joanne Bedford

Operations Manager
