"I was very disappointed"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Acute assessment unit

(as the patient),

I was very disappointed with my recent admission to ASU at Forth Valley. I was admitted with severe stomach pains, when the pain was eventually under control I was told I could go home.

I was discharged with no pain relief, no advise and no follow up however I felt very dazed and confused when I was getting discharged so I didn't feel I was able to express my concerns. The following day after being discharged I was admitted again with the same severe stomach pains, and again admitted to ASU.

In ASU I was told I was booked in to get an MRI scan done the following day and I needed to fast for it. I fasted as instructed to then be approached by a doctor the next morning to tell me I would be getting discharged and an outpatient MRI would be arranged.

I was very disappointed with this, and to make it worse I had been fasting for nearly 7 hours and when I told the doctor I felt very dry and dehydrated I was told my "bloods were fine" and didn't need IV fluids. As someone who works within NHS Forth Valley, I understand the standards of care I should have received and I regret to say that the standards of care I received on both admissions were very disappointing.

Dear Nurse 1993

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch to leave feedback about your recent experience, in our Surgical Assessment Unit.

It was disappointing to hear the care and treatment your received while in out care was not of the standard we expect our patients to receive, and would like to apologise for this.

I would really like to be able to talk with you about experience, and wondered, would it be possible for you to get in touch with me, you can contact me on 01324 566523 or you can drop me an email, p.marland@nhs.net

I hope that you are on the road to recovery, it must have been a frightening time for you and your family.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kindest regards

Pauline Marland
