I was first treated at the hospital on 31/05/17. After having to wait 2.5 hours I was told I had viral conjunctivitis by a doctor and was instructed to continue to use an ointment containing chloramphenicol 1%. I tried to explain that I had been using the cream for a couple of days already without improvement -actually made my eyes worse to the point that the internal pain kept me from sleeping at night. My family doctor told me that this cream could actually be making my condition worse as it is normally prescribed for bacterial conjunctivitis, not viral. I brushed off their concerns though as I had faith in what the Western Eye doctor advised me. Needless to say three days later I had to come back to the hospital due to excruciating internal pain and swollen glands. I had to wait a record 3.5 hours to be seen by a doctor despite the emergence of my condition. Thankfully, I was treated by a lovely doctor which is the only reason I give this review 3 stars. The doctor was dubious of the treatment I received previously and the way I was discharged and prescribed strong steroids and lubricant drops which I have to take on an hourly basis due to the severity of the infection. Had I not been misdiagnosed by the first doctor my symptoms would have gone away much quicker and I wouldnt have gone through all this drama. I sincerely hope that this is taken seriously and followed up by staff at the hospital.
