"Really long wait in the pharmacy"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Pharmacy and Medications

(as the patient),

I recently attended an appointment in the endoscopy department because I'd been feeling very unwell for many weeks beforehand. It was extremely busy as usual inside the hospital and the department and due to this my appointment was around 2 hours late. I didn't mind at all, that's how it is. I can't praise all the staff highly enough, they are wonderful in my opinion. I think they have to work at what seems like full stretch all day, every day.

Eventually I had my procedure, I chose to have pain relief and I hadn't eaten for ages because I'd had an enema earlier. I was given a prescription before I left the department which I had to get from the hospital pharmacy. At the pharmacy I waited 20 minutes to get my number and had to wait an hour before waiting in a queue again to pick up the prescription. At the pharmacy there was just one member of staff and a trainee on the counter. I assume there must have been a pharmacist in the background getting the prescriptions ready. It was chaos, as there were also customers to serve. I'm not criticising these staff, I feel sorry for them and I can't say whether the hospital is like that all the time, I don't know. It was a complete shambles. All I wanted to do was go home after being in the hospital for several hours. Don't get me started on the lack of car parking and the cars queuing up on the main road waiting to enter the car park. I really worry about the NHS, however the quality of care I always receive is brilliant. I don't know how the staff cope sometimes.
