"Shocked..."

About: Royal United Hospital / Accident and emergency

I am genuinely shocked about the attitude, lack of professionalism and dangerous lack of knowledge from the Dr's, nurses and care assistants in this hospital. My elderly mother who has a complex range of problems was first seen in a&e by a dr who did not introduce them self, didn't look at myself or my mum. Kept yawning and saying how tired they were. Then wrote all my mums medication down wrong, so she was later given the wrong doses by the nurse who was annoyed with me when I pointed out the mistake!!!

Then when moved to the short stay ward things have got worse. I will briefly outline below:

1. Rude nurses who seem annoyed at me phoning to see how my mum is.

2. Terrible care assistants who blamed my mum for not being able to stand, accused her of hurting their backs and told her she was putting it all on!

She was understandably very upset about this.

3. Frequently giving her the wrong medication.

4. Threw away her false teeth!

I wish I was joking.

I really cannot get over how these people who obviously do not have any compassion and I would go as far as to say dislike their patients, can get away with treating people this way. It almost seems that there is a culture of apathy and resentment of patients and their families that just seems ingrained throughout the hospital. ( I can only vouch for my experience with a&e and short stay).

I do hope that management listen to the reviews of people like myself. I have never written a review about anything before, but feel so shocked and let down I felt I had to comment for my mum. This hospital is a disgrace to the nhs.
