"Tremendous Care and attention throughout"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Ayr / General Medicine

(as the patient),

Recently, I got up felt fine and went to get washed ready to go to work. Suddenly I felt pains across the top of my chest. No matter what I did they wouldn't ease or go. I phoned for an ambulance to my house  and it arrived within 15mins, unbelievable service.

The paramedics were brilliant, they did tests, reassured me calmed me down and took me to Ayr hospital. I was taken into A&E and looked after straight away by a very kind, patient and understanding doctor and nurses who did ECG's etc and took my bloods. I was then transferred to the brand new Ambulatory Care Unit that had just opened that morning.

All the doctors, nurses and other staff in there were amazing as they answered all questions, gave reassurance and were excellent at guiding you to make the correct decision. Nothing was to much trouble for them. , supplying tea, coffee, water, a pen to do crosswords, anything! !

A troublesome patient who said he was a politician who knew Jeremy Hunt  was professionally dealt with by the by the nurse and doctor. Tremendous Care and attention throughout, good food and a positive attitude by staff helped me through a difficult time. Thank you all!

Nobody could have done more for me, but just a wee idea, may be a tv somewhere could be good for overnight patients. That's not a criticism just a thought

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Daltrey,

I am delighted to read about your lovely experience and the staff have now seen your post. thank you for taking time to tell us about this, I believe your story currently takes pride of place on the notice board.

I am sorry you had to be in at all, but glad you were calmed and reassured by the team and I hope you are well on the way to recovery now.

Thank you for you thought about the TV. I am checking it out. I think there are plans to have a TV in the waiting area. This of course will not helpful those who can't move around. I wonder if there is Wifi in that area so anyone with the technology could be entertained.

I will find out and come back to this forum if I have anything more to add about the TV situation.

Thank you again,

Best wishes,

Eunice

Dear Daltrey

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story. It must have been a very frightening experience for you and I am so glad that the Paramedics and hospital staff were able to you reassure you whilst carrying out their tests and treatment. Reassurance and explanation are important hallmarks of person-centred care and as your story highlights, this can have such a positive impact on a patient’s experience.

I would like to pass on your thanks to the Paramedics who cared for you on that day but would need a few more details to allow me to identify the call. If you are able to provide some more information you can contact me on 0131 314 0003 or at martinesposito@nhs.net

I do hope you are recovering well and thanks again for sharing.

Take care

Martin.

Hello Daltrey,

I am just popping on to Care Opinion to update you about the TV situation. I am making an assumption (hopefully correctly) that your overnight stay was in the Ayr Combined Assessment Unit (CAU). I can now let you know that both of our CAUs in Ayrshire have TVs in some of the rooms. Hopefully you will not need to have another overnight stay, but if you do, it may be in a room with a TV to help while the time away.

I hope you remained well,

best wishes,

Eunice
