"C-section delivery of my 2nd son"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

After a scary emergency c-section for my first born, I had an elective c-section with my second son in April in Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. Due to a low lying placenta I was warned of increased risk of bleeding by dr shetty who despite my fears was so reassuring and helpful in explaining was it meant and what they would put in place in theatre in case of a larger loss of blood. Knowing all this I was extremely nervous when I walked into the theatre, my anesthetist Dr Raviraj was so calming and reassuring even when I started panicking and feeling unwell when the spinal was done she did everything in her power to keep me calm and I eventually started to relax and actually enjoy the calm and pleasant environment. The midwife Caroline in theatre was so lovely also and held my hand prior to my other half coming into the theatre. All the staff in the theatre were so welcoming and caring and made the whole experience enjoyable. Despite the placenta worries I had minimal blood loss and the whole c-section happened quickly and calmly with every single member of staff making us feel important and once our beautiful boy was delivered they all individually wished us congratulations which really meant a lot.

Once on the ashgrove ward the care and attention I received was outstanding nothing was too much trouble to anyone and I was regularly checked up on throughout the day and also overnight. Despite the maternity hospital being such a busy place the staff still ensure that we felt special and were helpful from beginning to end. Thank you to all the wonderful staff! !

Dear LT81

Many congratulations on the birth of your baby son and I am so pleased to hear your caesarean section went so well this time despite the problems you describe - I can only imagine what a relief that was. Thank you for sharing your story with us and I will make sure that it is shared with Dr Shetty, Dr Raviraj, Caroline and the theatre and Ashgrove teams - they will be delighted to read your story.

Jenny
