"Post-op check, Easter weekend"

I had surgery at Southmead Hospital on the Thursday before the Easter weekend. All had gone well and the experience there had been positive but the wound had seemed to become red and sore over the weekend. I became anxious that it had become infected and needed antibiotics. If it hadn't been a Bank Holiday weekend I would have called into my GP's surgery. It didn't feel like an 'emergency' as such - but

I wanted some expert advice and reassurance - so rather than call the 'out of hours' doctor

Clevedon offered an alternative local place to go (I live in

Portishead) - so much better than having to be taken to Southmead with the added concern of not really knowing which department to go to in such a big complex. Clevedon was local, small enough to feel personal and I was able to just turn up and be seen by a nurse who examined the wound and gave me the reassurance I needed. The overall experience was very positive. Following this visit I was able to return home and enjoy the rest of the Bank Holiday without worrying. Thank you to all staff - medical and admin - who I saw that day - I was very aware that I benefitted greatly from them being prepared to work over the Bank Holiday.
