"Shocked and disappointed"

About: Arrowe Park Hospital / Accident and emergency

I arrived with my husband using a wheelchair that he found inside the front door of A/E.

Couldn't get 111 to answer the phone after a 15min try screaming in pain. Decided we needed to get to hospital under our own steam.

My rt. Knee had locked and i could not straightened my knee or put my foot on the floor.

I have had knee problems and been diagnosed with levels of osteoarthritis for the past eight years. I pay for physio when i need some professional support. My knee has never locked before and i was in extreme pain and very frightened.

I was sent for an X-Ray which was agony and i was very tearful because of the pain.

When i was called back to see a doctor. I was told that 'their hands were tied' and I would have to return to my GP later that day and take painkillers.

I was horrified. Then began my agonising journey home, some 5 hours after i had arrived here and i had not received any treatment. I really thought I would have been referred at least to an orthopaedic clinic.

Both my GP and my physio believe that a piece of bone or cartilage had become trapped in my knee joint and at least

I will need another arthroscopy to remove any debris.

I have heard from the referral service relating to a referral of over two weeks earlier, only to be told that there are no orthopaedic appointments available yet. So i don't even have a date.

I am one disillusioned mother of a surgeon.

Please contact me to discuss further or are your hands tied too.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience when attending the Emergency Department, and that your wait for an orthopaedic appointment is longer than we would like.

We would like to find out more from you so we can investigate your concerns properly. If you would like to contact the Patient Relations Team, they will be able to help. You can contact them by telephoning 0151 604 7660 or by emailing wih-tr.Patientrelations@nhs.net.
