"Holding onto hope"

About: Highbury Hospital

(as the patient),

I spent 4 months on Rowan 2 and although this was the worst time in my life, it was because of my illness and not my experience on the ward.

The ward is very tidy and clean - the domestic staff are amazing and so kind.

Although I was very unhappy about being admitted on a section, I can now see it was necessary and that being on the ward has saved my life. But not only that, the staff on the ward were so patient, encouraging and caring and because of this I left holding onto the hope and belief that I could make something of my life. I arrived on Rowan 2 completely hopeless and lost in a deep dark depression and I left holding a seed of hope that I could continue to grow myself in the community.

The OT department also had a massive part to play aswell as all the ward staff, they helped me gain my confidence back after it had been shattered from the depression. 9 months on and I'm back in employment after being off for years due to my MH.

Thank you to everyone who had involvement in my care on the ward - you saved my life and now it's richer than ever.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a lovely comment about your experiences on Rowan 2.

It is particularly lovely to hear you are feeling much better and recently gained employment, what an achievement, well done!

Overcoming depression is a tough journey and I’m thrilled that you found the staff at Highbury supportive and instrumental in your recovery. I will ensure that all the staff at Highbury are made aware of your kind comments and I’m sure your story will give hope to others battling depression.

Kind Regards

Dear JoyyyB

Thank you so much for posting this comment; we love to see feedback for the ward especially as lovely as this.

The experience that you have shared is an inspiration for people who may be struggling within their mental health that a good life and positive Recovery is achievable. Hope and belief in the future is so important and I am pleased to see that you have this back in your life. I am glad you found the care from the staff here on the ward helpful and supportive.

We as a ward are so lucky to have excellent OT’s who make such a difference to people’s lives and I am happy to see that this was beneficial to you.

I have forwarded this post to the team as I know they will be glad to see you are doing well.

I wish you all the very best for your future.

Many thanks
