"I have nothing but praise and admiration"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

I was admitted into hospital on  5 days with Chronic high pressure retention. It was explained to me very clearly by my consultant Mr Misra. He went into great detail telling me the problems caused by the condition. He then went on to tell me about various treatment's.

The TURP procedure was what he recommended and placed me on the waiting list. From then on I had long term catheter fitted which worked well for some time, then I had three come out as a result of the balloon bursting.

After my CISC Urodynamics test it was suggested I try self catheterization. Which I got on well with right up until my Operation. I was admitted into the North Devon District Hospital. After only 10 minutes I was taken for my preoperative preparation, during which I was made to feel so relaxed by the caring way in which all the Medical Team treated me.

I was aware of something going on around me, but that's all. Back in recovery and onto the Lundy Ward I have nothing but praise and admiration for every member of staff that dealt with me for nearly three days.

If they were under pressure, which they undoubtedly were, they never showed it. I find very difficult to believe these people can work twelve and a half hours and stay fully focused in a very challenging environment.

It seems a recipe for mistakes to be made. When something does go wrong they are the first to take the blame! I can't imagine how little time they have for their private lives, if you take in the travel time to and fro work, its at least 14 to 15 hours a day. That's my observation but done! So a very big thank you to you all at our lovely NDD Hospital.

Dear Jimny

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on the website. It was very good to read your story as I can see you had excellent care which was explained clearly to you, every step of your journey, at what was clearly an anxious time for you.

It was also very pleasing to learn that whilst the nurses and doctors were very busy caring for you, they never appeared to be rushed, which ensured you felt safe and involved in your care at all times.

I have shared your very kind comments with the ward managers where I know they will be warmly appreciated and shared with the staff involved in your care.

I do hope you are now recovered and wish you well for the future.

Kind regards

Jayne.
