I am almost 70, with most of the ailments associated with age and a 'good life' .. I moved to Barnsley 29 years ago .. during which time I have used more of my fair share of the services provided by the NHS .. I won't bore with a long list of instances of exceptional service .. but a couple of weeks ago, on a Saturday teatime I had a fall at home, resulting in a nasty 3" gash on my forehead .. with blood literally pumping out we attempted to stem the flow with tea towels as we spoke to the 999 operator .. a first responder arrived quite quickly .. followed by an ambulance ..
head swathed in bandages I was taken to the A&E Department of BDGH .. the superb doctor and the nurses that helped quickly stemmed the flow of blood .. the two staff members from the ambulance popped in to see if I was OK .. I wish I had taken names .. Wound attended, taken for a CT scan .. checked over and discharged .. arriving home in all less than 4 hours from the arrival of the ambulance ... all for free ..
"A realistic view"
