"Carpel tunnel release"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

The surgeon first reviewed me in 2015 and I then went onto have my right hand Carpel tunnel release in Feb 2016.

The full procedure was explained and the day surgery staff were very reassuring and comforting. Although some delays this was explained due to other surgeries and emergencies.

The surgeon explained that they had faced a little difficulty with the excess scar tissue for the release.

But throughout very relaxed.

The recovery period went as expected and took a little longer due to the stitches not healing as well.

Overall I was pleased that the surgery was as explained.

I returned to work two months later and it took several months for me to adapt.

I was then advised due to similar problems with my left hand I would need the same procedure.

This was completed in December 2016.

However post surgery I have still got swelling and restrictions.

Once again the surgeon in the review clinic has referred me to physio in the department. I received my first appointment less than two weeks after the referral.

Iam still working with the rehabilitation department but have been pleased with their attitude and response and not dismissed my concerns .

Overall these two surgeries have made an improvement in my day to day living. I would like to personally express my thanks to the surgeon and their team for the service.
