"In-Patient Experience"

About: Derriford Hospital

In late 2013 I was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus and stomach. In January 2014 I was admitted to Crownhill Ward for major surgery which was successfully undertaken. In 2016 I was readmitted to the same ward for minor procedures relative to the main operation. During my time in the ward I was impressed with the care afforded me by all members of staff, from the healthcare assistants through to the consultants. Everyone treated me with kindness and respect and made my recovery all the more successful. In addition to the staff on or associated with the ward, I have the highest regard for the staff in all the departments I visited for tests. in addition, I should mention that nurses in post-operative recovery whose caring manner was of the highest order. The follow up consultations have been excellent. Overall my experience of Derriford is extremely positive and three years down the line I am still here and will forever be grateful to everyone involved in my care for giving me the chance to survive cancer. Thank you.
