"Female nurse not present"

About: Morriston Hospital

(as the patient),

A few weeks ago, I had an appointment in the radiology department for diagnostic treatment prior to seeing my surgeon. For this session, the radiologist and radiographer, both male, were present along with a female nurse. As the diagnostic treatment needed to induce pain the nurse was there to hold my hand and support me throughout. I didn’t mind the male health staff treating me even though it was of an intimate nature, although it was good to have a female presence.

A month later I needed to have the same procedure, this time the same radiologist was present, a different radiographer and another male, in green, who was not introduced. There was no female presence, I came away feeling uncomfortable and embarrassed. I wonder, is this the norm? Could a woman, either a nurse, radiographer or radiologist not be made available when a woman is being examined / treated? Is it usual for a person to be there without an introduction / explanation why they are there?
