"Do not enter the A&E Department"

About: Barnet Hospital / Accident and emergency

I am a 72 year old man who has previously had 3 cardiac stents inserted 2 years ago. I entered the hospital on 13/3/2017 because of chest pain.

I came by ambulance and I entered the hospital around 1:00am nobody saw me for 30 min . My son told them that and the nurse in the first room said we are too busy today in a very impolite manner. 10 min later the chest pain started to increase so my son went to the nurse again and they said that I should bare with them as it is a busy day. An hour has passed and nobody has seen me and there is a monitor behind me and nobody cared to connect it to me or see if this chest pain is a Myocardial infarction or what. A nurse passed by after an hour had passed took some blood and vital data. The nurse told me to wait in the waiting area and I will be taken to a cubicle shortly. I was left in the waiting area in pain with no connections on any monitor for over 1 hour and a half and when the result of the troponin level came out the nurse in charge said that it is positive and another blood sample will be taken. The blood sample was indeed taken but no further management was done. My cardiac enzymes are elevated and I was not seen by a doctor and I was not transferred to a room to be monitored and was left in the waiting room. I am writing this review whilst being in the waiting room. 2 other patients are with me complaining of the care they are receiving.

When I had a similar attack a month ago in Northwick Park hospital I was treated properly and the moment I entered the hospital a blood sample was taken and vital data was recorded . The nurses continuously were checking my vital data and the doctor saw me straight away. The second blood sample was taken and chest X-ray performed in a very short time . The level of care in Northwick park is unbelievably better in all aspects of patient care. This will definitely be my last visit to Barnet Hospital

Dear M H

Thank you for leaving your review, feedback like yours can be hard to read but really important if we are going to make improvements in our service.

I am sorry the visit fell far short of the standard we set ourselves, I am particuarly sorry you were left in pain. I have shared your feedback and the head of nursing has asked me to pass her personal apologies to you also.

Kind Regards

Richard
