"Poor experience with cleanliness"

About: Lincoln County Hospital

(as a relative),

Visiting relative at Lincoln County Hospital, signs everywhere saying no smoking or use bins provides yet the entrance to the building are crowded with people smoking, dropping fag ends and the bins are chocka block full of rubbish.

The public convinences also lead a lot to be desired - I decided to wait till I got home they were so disgusting! Also the corridors a littered with giant wheelie bins right near the wards - It feels like there were germs all over in the public area.

Ward I visited on other hand top notch - I know visitors are not the priority here however I feel like hospitals should be CLEAN!

Dear snozie,

Thank you for your comments, which I have tried to address below.

Smoking is discouraged everywhere on site, except within clearly-defined designated smoking areas. Understandably, the main entrance is not a designated area. Unfortunately patients and relatives do choose to ignore the requests to use these areas and, whilst staff are encouraged to ask smokers to go to the designated areas, we have no legal powers to force them to do so.

The large bins you identified within corridors are the transport method for removing waste from the wards to our central disposal area, they are not left in position all day, but very much like household rubbish bins, are left out for collection when rubbish is due to be removed.

With regard to the public conveniences, within the past two weeks we have introduced checking and cleaning on a two-hourly basis, but would always encourage visitors to report any problems to a member of staff.

Thank you once again for your valid observations, which I hope I have been able to address.

Regards

Ian Hayden, Facilities manager
