"Dermatology Waiting Times"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Dermatology (Skin Conditions)

(as the patient),

I was referred to the Dermatology Clinic, ARI in December 2015. After waiting numerous weeks, I phoned the clinic to update my address and to get an update on my appointment, I was told I was on my 18th week, on a 21week waiting list and I would receive my appointment within the next couple of weeks.

2 weeks and then some went past and I phoned again as I was concerned my letter had been sent to my old address, I was then told I was on my 21st week, on a 26 week waiting list and was told yet again, I would receive my appointment within the next couple of weeks. Again this was not the case so I phoned again and was told I was on my 26th week on a 31 week waiting list.

I am unsure how the waiting list weeks can go up so drastically when you are told you are nearing the top of the list however I was most annoyed when I finally did receive my appointment to find that it was the week I was on holiday, I phoned to change my appointment as I explained I was on holiday to be told I should have informed them I was going to be on holiday during this period however if I had received my appointment within any of the 2 weeks I was previously told I would, me being on holiday would have not been a problem so again as you can imagine, I was most annoyed when I had to wait a further 7 weeks for my appointment. I would have preferred if it had just been explained to me what was going on instead of having false hope of receiving my appointment soon.

Dear m93,

Thank you very much for taking the time to feedback on your recent experience with the Dermatology Department. I am really sorry about the length of your wait for an appointment. We are currently struggling to recruit to a number of vacancies due to national shortage of Dermatologists.

If you get in touch with me on:-

email maxinecallow@nhs.net or tel. 01224 559578 and provide your full name, date of birth and address I will look into your case.

Kind Regards

Maxine Callow
