I had surgery in March 2016 having previously had chemo radiation. I had brilliant professional care during the surgery and afterwards. I was kept informed, very well looked after and don't really being in pain as my pain was really well managed.
Unfortunately I was one of the unlucky ones who developed a major complication. This is when my body really tested the hopital's expertise! I was looked after unbelievably well. I saw consultants regularly, saw lots of junior doctors and was cared for and monitored by a fabulous nursing team and healthcare assistants. My bay in the ward was kept really clean. I drew on the skills of many hospital departments!
After a long just over stay of seven weeks on Crownhill ward I was able to go home.
Without this care I really don't think I would still be here. In addition to first class medical treatment and care I was astonished at how kind all the staff were. They even found me a birthday cake! Their kindness and positivity really inspired me and motivated me to work hard at recovering at home. I can't thank them enough. I have my life back, I am one very lucky patient. So a huge thank you to all the staff who work on Derriford Ward.
What could be improved? An earlier shower.
