I have been waiting to write this review for sometime now, since June 2014. My mother unfortunately became ill while we were away on holiday - she had a short stay in hospital in Spain and when we returned home we attended St George's hospital. The A&E department worked so hard and assessed quickly - very soon it was realised that admission was needed and she was taken to the ward. Overnight her condition deteriorated and her surgeon and their team spent many hours in theatre on a Sunday to save her life; for which I am eternally grateful for. The care she received was outstanding and all involved from the domestics through to the nurses/ stoma specialist and ward staff played a part in getting her back on her feet.
Thank you unfortunately Mum has had to be an in-patient again in 2016 - again she had life saving care when eventually the condition had been diagnosed but it was a completely different experience. In the two years the unit has become far busier with less staff to cover and it is unfortunate to say that the infection control measures had deteriorated (not by staff necessarily, but mainly because of the structure/ design of wards and the necessity to find space for patients on the Wards) I feel that the executive board need to really look at the ward set up with fresh eyes. There are so many staff that provided so much input into care - i want to thank two who always took time and showed amazing compassion x another member of staff for their sense of humour which helped endlessly on scary days as a visitor, the stoma team were great too - i am sure to have missed so many more but those names stick out to me as i write today. St George's is an amazing hospital - because of the staff; Well Done and Thank you so much for your priceless input
Executive teams please take note and invest in the people that make your unit
