"Totally frustrating disappointing wasted..."

About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford)

Was scheduled for op to remove bleeding anal warts 16 Feb, but due to emergency they had to reschedule me for today, admittance at 7:30am. Not a big problem for us. Arrived with my disabled wife. On arrival I was told things had changed and we had to go up to a ward in main hospital rather than down in the Day Surgery. So, slowly up and off we went, as my wife struggled along. Only to be told again by a nurse that we must head back down to Day Surgery reception because they got it wrong. The op is being done down there after all. So back down we went, only then to be told it was definitely up at the other ward in the main hospital. What confusion!! Finally we reached the right ward only to find I'm one of 20 patients in the op queue with only 2 surgeons attending! It may be of little importance to others but we left a pup at home, never expecting it would be maybe up to 7 or 8hrs she'd be left alone. That's just wrong. We're new to area so don't know any anyone well enough who would be willing to check on her. So I asked several staff a few times how long I might be. The answer was I was 6th but would be moved up to 3rd. They wanted to get me in as soon as possible because I'm diabetic. After 4 1/2hrs and still waiting, I peeked at the op list and I was still 6th! I couldn't wait any longer. I told them to let someone else go in my place because we had to leave. I could see it was going to take even longer than anyone had said. They weren't being very honest. I cannot remember a more disappointing frustrating wasted morning. We weren't the only ones who thought they had been forgotten. There obviously were too many patients and too few surgeons. I suppose this is a reflection of the great needs in the NHS?? Why are people admitted so early just to have to sit and wait all day? We do have lives to live as well. It is so frustrating. I shouldn't have to put my pup in kennels just for day surgery surely?? Felt so badly that my wife had to go through all that while being in so much pain and discomfort. This is only one of three disappointing incidents experienced at this hospital. I never want to go back ever again.
