My visit to gynaecology was the very first time I had ever been in hospital, so I was feeling most apprehensive at the prospect of having a hysterectomy following a cancer diagnosis.
My fears however, were groundless, and rather than being the frightening experience I had anticipated, I found the entire process - thanks to wonderful doctors and nurses - to be a truly uplifting few days. All my fears were instantly dispelled by the kindness and understanding of staff.
I can honestly say that they took away my fear, and I just knew I was going to be alright under their wonderful care!
One small but very meaningful gesture will stay with me always. As I was about to go into theatre for my operation, a lovely young theatre nurse gripped my hands tightly and looking into my eyes said "You'll be just fine - don't worry! Everything will be OK!" And it was - God bless them!
"Short but memorable stay"
