"Mental Health "support" in Shetland"

About: Lerwick Health Centre

(as the patient),

I have been trying to get support to change medication for depression and anxiety from the mental health department for the past 18 months. I have had a total of 3 appointments in that time, during which time I have been prescribed an anti histamine which did nothing, and another medication which was not helpful. Neither of these medications were for depression and anxiety. On the 3rd appointment I was informed that the problems in my life were due to the fact that I, as a person, am too damaged to maintain healthy relationships and not medication change. My doctor sent another letter to the mental health team as I was experiencing increased suicidal thoughts and regular self harming. The letter stated dates that I would be off island, the appointment I received was during those dates. I called and stated that I could not attend and would like a rescheduled appointment. This was over 2 months ago and I have not received a new appointment yet.

We are sorry that you have been waiting for an appointment that you were expecting and had not had contact from us. In order to resolve this, could you please contact Donna Anderson in the Mental Health Department on 01595 743006 so we can look into this matter for you.

Thank you

Update posted by Brain Dead (the patient)

I have already been in contact to chase up an appointment. What I think might be useful for the professionals involved in this situation is interpersonal and communication training.

Thank you
