"Amazing care through hardest time"

Throughout my mothers treatment for cancer - both of her lung and bowel which was found by chance after admission for a pulmonary embolism, the care that I have witnessed has been completely out of this world. From the caring nature of the doctor in Ambulatory care who first showed concern regarding a shadow on her scan, right to the health care assistants who made us cups of tea and chatted with us during what is undoubtedly one of the worst times of our lives. The care she received through her scans by radiologists and receptionists was second to none, in follow up with her consultants in clinic and post operatively was outstanding. After surgery for a bowel resection under the amazing Mr Subramonia, she was cared for diligently and holistically in ITU before being transferred to a different ward for further recovery. I really cannot speak highly enough of the care that was shown throughout the whole experience by the amazing staff at South Tyneside District Hospital. During her chemotherapy treatment and radiotherapy, the specialist nurses and consultants had nothing but time for us, giving us time to talk and think things through while giving us all of the support we needed. The specialist nurses deserve a special thanks, Jen and Jo have been completely amazing and have left our entire family in awe. They do such a hard job and yet always have the time to speak to you as a person not as a condition. They put both their patients and their relatives at ease in such a natural manner, I really cannot thank them enough.
