I had the best of care in the delivery suite. My midwives were efficient, approachable and above all supportive. They really got me through the labour, kept me informed throughout and explained things clearly to me. They helped me find a comfortable position to breastfeed my baby in shortly after delivery. They were professional and efficient with the checks on my baby and myself post birth.
The midwives in the postnatal ward were also kind and considerate. However, the Health Assistant gave me very bad advice, which could of ruined my breastfeeding journey. I needed to feed my baby (2nd time at doing so) and buzzed for support in positioning, I was told to "give her some formula to keep her quiet." The Health Assistant also misheard me speaking to my husband and said about my expressing and giving her colostrum in a syringe. Going against the skin to skin advice. The Health Assistant also suggested nipple shields, rather than help, which can affect supply and is even on their paperwork you complete for recording feeds, that it is not advised.
