"Stopping the clinic is a bad idea"

About: Children & younger people's services / Ashfield Healthy Family Team

(as the patient),

I personally think the health visiting service is a joke at the moment, stopping clinic I think is ridicules new mums feeling lonely and having a clinic means new mums can go and meet other mum, speak to people and get advice to put their minds at rest how it is at the moment mean new mums have to do it themselves they don't meet other mums the same and there's no one to ask the silly little questions we all have, even if they have a clinic once a month it better than not having one at all. I think I speak on behalf of myself and a lot of other mums and the views of self weigh clinic now.

Dear Sarahloo26

Thank you for sharing your concerns. Although the Child Health Clinics are no longer in operation we have implemented Health Visitor appointment sessions across the locality which can be accessed by contacting the Single Point of Contact (01623 785389 for Ashfield) or your named Health Visitor. The appointment based sessions mean that all parents or carers can have privacy and a dedicated time slot with their health professional.

The Single Point of Contact also enables anyone with a concern about their child to speak to a Health Visitor or a member of the Health Visiting team for advice and support Monday - Friday 9am-5pm.

The health visiting team will continue to advise and support all parents in relation to their child’s growth, health and development at intervals appropriate to the child.

Self-weigh sessions have also been introduced in Children Centres to enable parents, if they are interested, to weigh their baby in addition to the times they are seen and weighed by their health professional. These are often run in conjunction with parent and toddler groups.

The Ashfield area’s Health Visiting teams and Children’s Centres have a booklet that is available for parents and carers. This lists all the Children's Centre groups and events that are available across the Ashfield locality to support parents in meeting other parents with children of a similar age. You can either search online for "sure start ashfield" and click on "find my ashfield centre" then enter your postcode and this will take you to the page with the "what's on guide" or copy and paste the link below

Please be assured that we will continue to review our services through this transition and the impact this change makes on the wellbeing of the families we serve.

If you wish to discuss your concerns further please contact Sue Wetton on 01623 781822
