"Bowel screening"

About: Will Adams NHS Treatment Centre

I accompanied my son for bowel screening on the 2 February for a 1.30 pm appointment. At 3pm he was still waiting to be called for the procedure. I then asked staff if he had been forgotten as the appointment time had well passed. I was advised that they were waiting for a bed. I said okay as long as they had' not forgotten him. He finally then went to theatre at 3pm and came out after 5.30pm. My son said the procedure took place at 4 45pm. I was very disappointed that he had been given a 1.30pm appointment then have to wait so long. He had fasted from the day before the procedure, so nothing to eat for a day and a half.

My son has Autism & I am 74.

I object to him being given an appointment time that could not be kept.

Many thanks for sharing your experience with us at the Will Adams NHS Treatment Centre. Firstly, I am sorry to hear that this happened to you and your son, though I appreciate that you have taken the time to feedback to us as it is through patient experience we can improve the service we provide.

Regarding this date in particular, we do not have record of a bowel screening list having taken place on this date for the National Bowel Screening Programme. Please could you contact me with details of your son (i.e. date of birth, name and/or NHS number), and I will then be able to review and provide a response.

Kind regards,

Ben Howes, Interim Operations Manager
