"What is the policy for Mobile phones?"

Please can I know what the policy is about mobile phones on low secure wards. I am due to move to low secure in Birmingham and would like to know if I can have a mobile phone on my person.

Thank you for your query. Contact with friends, family and carers is such an important part of the recovery process, that is essential that we adopt the use of technology to boost support networks.

I can confirm that we are developing a pilot site in Birmingham for the use of mobile phones in a low secure environment, and hope to be able to move forward with this soon.

I am aware that other organisations already allow the use of mobile phones on some low secure areas, and we are going to be linking in with them to develop policies and ensure that our approach ensures safety and confidentiality while allowing patients that essential contact with friends and family members.
