"I struggled with the regime when I first came here,"

About: St Andrew's Men's pathway

(as the patient),

When I came here in 2005, I really struggled as I was a really active, independent person. I came here and suddenly, I couldn't do anything. I wanted to pop to the shops and you just can't, you just flop. This was a major struggle for me. This is the regime and I thought "you're having a laugh aren't you". I wanted to do my own thing and it's really difficult, but things are slowly starting to change back to me being much more active now that I'm on a low secure ward.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It must be so difficult to go from being an active and independent person to being more dependent on others and 'having permission' to do things. I do hope things are much better for you now as you suggest but it is really important that you work closely with the team around you so that your care can be individual to you. Please do speak with your Nurse Manager if you feel 'held back' or you feel you are not doing things you should be doing.

I wish you all the best for your future and hope your progress continues for you.

Lynn
