"Poor quality,experience endoscopy"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

I had an endoscopy at Queen Margaret hospital Dunfermline this month.

My appt was for 2. 30 and I had been fasting since 6. 30 that morning.

The hospital was 26 miles from my home.

The waiting room was very very brightly lit with a huge loud TV. The seats were hard and uncomfortable, which would have been ok if I hadn't waited 2 and a half hrs to be seen. Nobody said they were running late, we were all just sitting waiting, and I was starving after our scheduled appt time.

There was a crumpled grubby sheet on the trolley. I was ushered out of recovery quickly with an unexplained list of findings, given a dry cheese sandwich and tea, nobody monitored me to see if I could swallow. I just left and in my opinion, nobody seemed remotely concerned. It was a dreadful experience and I will never, ever have any treatment there again

Dear sg45

Thank you for your feedback, I was disappointed to read about your experience however I am grateful that you have taken the time to tell us about the issues that you had.

I was sorry to learn that you waited longer than you expected. We are always keen to keep our patients informed about the waiting times in the Unit. We will continue to encourage our team to get all patients informed at all times when our lists are running late. We have also documented on our patient procedure information booklets that patients might be in the department up to 4 hours.

I am also concerned about your experience post procedure, what you have described is certainly not the experience that I would want for any of our patients and there are many points in your post that I would be keen to explore further with you.

If you can, I would be grateful if you would call me on 01383 623623 ext. 22126 or by email nothando.senda-ndaba@nhs.net.

I am really sorry that we have let you down.

I Look forward to speaking with you.

Kindest regards

Nothando Senda-Ndaba
