"I need more support with my physical health"

About: Locked & Specialist Rehab / Spring Hill

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

It was awful when I first came here and it took a long time to get leave. I have been here for a year and I was very poorly but they want me to get better. Being on a very structured ward is helpful. Physical health and worries need more support. I feel that this is not being addressed as at the moment I want to lose some weight healthily but the dietician is only involved if you refuse to eat.

It’s really good to hear that you value looking after your physical health and disappointed that we haven’t been able to give you more support with managing your weight. Losing weight can be an long term challenge and we agree that regular support is important to keep going with this. Our monthly dietitian drop-in session had to be cancelled recently because of other urgent clinical issues, but we now have these back in place again. Do please ask the ward team to let us know if you have any questions between times and we will make time to meet with you to answer these. A healthy lifestyle session is also being started by other members of the ward team and we hope that you find this helpful.

Thank you for adding your story to Patient Opinion.

I am pleased to read that you find the structure on the ward helpful and that you can see that the Team there want you to get better. I fully take on board your comments regarding the support required in relation to physical health and that you feel that this is not being addressed as at the moment. As the Dietician has already commented, we understand that losing weight can be a long term challenge and have recently introduced "Healthy Lifestyles" onto another of our female wards in the pathway. This includes information about healthy foods, the introduction of "portion plates" which helps to ensure your portion sizes are appropriate as well as discussions about exercise and activity. This has been received well by the ladies on the ward and we have received some very positive feedback. Due to this a healthy lifestyle session is now being introduced onto Spring Hill and we hope that you will also find this helpful.

Thanks again for your comments.
