"Non English speaking staff"

About: St James's University Hospital

My partner is currently on J45 Lincoln Wing, St James hospital, following major surgery.

Up until last night, 4/1/17, the care he has received has been excellent.

However, last night the staff on shift had limited English Language skills & the standard of care was appalling.

Buzzers went unanswered and when patients did get assistance they were unable to convey their needs to staff due to the lack of understanding by the staff on duty.

Consequently some patients, unable to get help with toilet needs, ended ups wetting/soiling their bed.

My partner was left to lay on his wet bed until this morning when the daytime staff came on duty.

The staff last night were all agency!!!!

Dear Rita

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

I am very sorry to read that your partner had such a distressing time whilst in our care; the level of service that you have described is not what we wish to offer.

I have passed your comments onto the Matron for ward J45 for information regarding the issues that you have raised.

It would be very beneficial for our services and for future patients if you could discuss the matters you have raised further with our Trust’s Patient Advise and Liaison Service (PALS). This would also allow us look into the matters you have raised more thoroughly.

I would appreciate it if you could contact our Patient Advise and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0113 206 6261 or alternatively email patientexperience.leedsth@nhs.net

kind regards

Rosie
