My father only has one kidney which is not working at best these days. He also has various ailments that cause severe pain for which he was proscribed oramorph which is an opiate pain relief which did help remove the pain he is in all the time.
Unfortunately he was taken ill on three occasions which required ambulance assistance as he was unconscious and needed urgent care. This happened as mentioned three occasions each the same symptoms and he was released from hospital once given oxygen and sent home without further investigation as to why this happened.
The fourth time he took ill he happened to be in Scotland visiting myself and was again rushed to hospital by ambulance due to low oxygen and poor breathing. Some small research by myself made me question the pain medicine he was on as it had a fair amount of the symptoms that he was showing. I asked the doctors who explained more thoroughly what the drug did and they concluded this was probably the route cause of the issue. Mainly due to the fact it was affecting his kidney(the only one he has) he had been following the proscribed dosage but had not been clearly shown the side effects that could happen.
In conclusion my father is very happy he came to visit in Scotland as he got a level of care he had not been used to in England and was very happy with the fact he was being taken care of and had been taken off a drug that was clearly not suitable for him to be taking. More than twelve months after being given it and having symptoms which no doctor had noticed until he had come to Scotland.
I would like to thank the doctors and nurses in Dundee ninewells hospital for their care.
And secondly show my utter disgust in the QE in Birmingham for pushing my father from pillar to post with each department taking turns in messing him up. GP is also to take some heat from this as they should clearly see what is going on as my father is a regular visitor. If I could see what may be the issue from one night of seeing what happened to my father why couldn't trained doctors in Birmingham! !
