"Operation waiting times exceeded"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / General Surgery (wards 64, 65, 66,& 67)

(as the patient),

I had a replacement shoulder put in at the start of June but due to infection it was removed mid July, the hospital staff spent a lot of time and effort trying to save the joint but they had no option but to remove it.

I was then given a guarantee date of mid December to had a new joint fitted but sadly this has passed.

I have been in constant touch with the surgeons secretary but one of the problems is getting the two surgeons needed for the operation together.

I work in a small team within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Part of the team’s role is to support patients and carers through our feedback systems which will help to improve the services we provide. On Patient Opinion, I support Lorna Gray, Patient Experience Public Involvement Project Manager, and Niall McGrogan, Head of Patient Experience Public Involvement.

Dear Taitsie

Thank you for taking the time to post on Patient Opinion. I am sorry to read about what happened with your surgery and that you are now experiencing a delay in receiving a date for your surgery. If you have still not received a date for your operation, then please contact me at Lisa.Ramsay@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with some personal details and I will look into this for you.

In the meantime, I will share your feedback with the appropriate department in Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Best wishes
Lisa

Update posted by Taitsie (the patient)

Just a quick update, I have an appointment to see the surgeons and a provisional surgery date.

Update posted by Taitsie (the patient)

Hi

I am happy to say that I recently had my shoulder revision surgery and at the moment everything is good. Once again I would like to thank all staff at GRI and particularly ward 62 for all the care and attention during my stay.

Update posted by Taitsie (the patient)

I recently had another shoulder replacement, left side this time and cannot praise all staff at GRI highly enough. I was discharged the day after surgery but even in the short time I was on ward 62 all staff could not do enough for me, thanks.
