"Hard working staff in a challenging environment"

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital / Accident and emergency

The A&E department is utter chaos.

Waits are longer than we'd like, the department is far too small for the number of patients it's too hot, too noisy and staff never seem to have time to take a breath. The department is dreary, badly lit and I'd be depressed to work there.

And yet in all this I found staff full of humanity..

I was taken seriously and things were well explained to me.

I was given really good and thorough advice on how to manage my long term condition, advice I so badly needed.

If you read this please pass on my thanks to everyone who gets up today and every other day and goes to work in such a challenging environment and still manages to deliver treatment with such care and compassion.

Thank you so much for your kind comments about the staff who work in A&E.

I absolutely agree with you that this is a very difficult environment and yet the staff are friendly and compassionate.

I am glad to know that you were provided with good advice concerning your condition.

It is a huge challenge to the Trust and its staff to deal with the increased volume of patients attending A&E, which is why we have campaigns to alert the public to the other options open to them to seek help, for instance, from their own GPs where possible.
