"Difficult to get an appointment to see the GP"

About: East Anglia

(as the patient),

I have a chronic condition which I have to use many strong painkillers and I am struggling to cope with my daily pain control. It is almost a month I have been registered with a GP practice in Norwich

Firstly, the GP hasn't put my all the regular painkillers on my repeat prescription. I've been taking this painkillers more than 5 years and I did not had any problems with my previous GP surgery. Secondly, I needed to see the GP due to my chronic condition, When I book the appointments I specifically asked the receptionist that I would like to see the GP, not the nurse, because I know that only a doctor can answer my medical questions and sort out my medical problems which I am suffering from. If I have a cold, flu, cut or ingrowing finger nail I would have asked to see the nurse. Despite all the explanation to the receptionist who has no medical knowledge, they have always booked me into see the practice nurse.

At one occasion I informed the practice nurse that she should not put me on certain medications as they are contra-indicating with my other medication I am already taking. And hospital has strongly advised me to not to take that certain medication. But Practice nurse did not listen to me and handed me prescription for a same medication which hospital has advised me to not to take only a couple of days ago. After I took one dose of this medication I lost my consciousness, and luckily I was found by my neighbour, and almost end up in A&E.

A few days later my condition got worse and phoned the  surgery at 8. 30am to get an appointment to see the GP. Again I end up in front of another nurse in this surgery. and after her consultation and assessment I could hardly stand, walk, move my arm or drive my way back home. Why is it so hard to see a doctor at this surgery? If they do not have a sufficient number of GPs to provide needy care for their catchment area they should employee more GPs. Otherwise they should turn this GP practice into nurse led walking in clinic. so that patients knows whether to gone see a nurse at this medical practice or go to the hospital to see a doctor.

Lastly, Some of the receptionists I have encountered at this surgery  do not have any politeness or manners I feel let down and discussed by this surgery. Hope the things will change in the future, if not I will be definitely move into an another GP practice.
